“Kyle Sinckler is the most important player in England”

KYLE SINCKLER, tighthead prop. The position is arguably still the most important on the field, and we were reminded of that in Japan recently in the most painful fashion imaginable.

You can also make another case. If it is the most important position then Sinckler is the most important player in England, and possibly in Britain and Ireland. No pressure then, Mr Sinckler.

He is on a sporting switchback too. The World Cup final was barely three minutes old. Makazole Mapimpi, the South Africa wing, was in possession and Sinckler and Maro Itoje came in from different directions to tackle him.
