THE MAKING OF JONNY GRAY
KNOWN FOR his phenomenal work-rate, Jonny Gray has been a mainstay in the Scotland team pretty much since his debut against South Africa at Murrayfield in the autumn of 2013. All being well he will hit the 60-cap mark in the Six Nations – on his 26th birthday.
Gray, younger brother of Toulouse lock Richie, will also embark on a new challenge later this year when he leaves his beloved Glasgow Warriors – a club he captained at 21 – for Exeter Chiefs in the summer. It’s a big move for a player who has become something of an idol at Scotstoun, but with his work ethic he should fit in very well at Sandy Park.
Opta revealed a quite remarkable statistic about Gray recently: he has a tackle success rate of 99% in more than 100 games for Glasgow. Of 1,006 attempted tackles, he’s missed just 13.
