For people who live in food deserts, getting groceries can be a real challenge.
According to a 2009 U.S. Department of Agriculture , about 2.3 million people in the United States live more than a mile away from a supermarket and don't have reliable vehicle access. If they don't own a car, they have to find a ride, take public transit, walk or bike to the closest store. The trip takes time, money and energy — and can be especially taxing
