NEW COOKBOOK Nigel Slater’s Greenfeast

Why two books – Greenfeast Spring, Summer, and Greenfeast Autumn/Winter – rather than one bumper seasonal-eating tome?

To collect all the recipes I want to share in one volume would have made it unwieldy. I want to produce books that are comfortable to hold and practical to use.

If you didn’t write about food, which subject would you choose?

Gardening. I am as interested in growing plants and designing gardens as I am in cooking. I loved writing Tender, the book in which I follow the progress of my vegetable garden through the year – it was one of my favourites to work on.

What particular joy does growing and harvesting bring to you?

The nurturing of a plant, looking after it, watering it and keeping it safe from predators is a good thing for the soul. The idea of caring for things appeals to me. There is a sense of accomplishment too.
