THINKING OUTSIDE THE SALAD BOX

There are loads of veg you can grow for leaves and greens that can be added to salads or cooked when they become a little bigger. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing better than seeing a lovely row of identical lettuce plants on an allotment, but there are so many other options for us to have a go at growing, one of the easiest being salad mixes.

Salad mixes usually comprise a mixture of varieties from the same species of veg, i.e. lettuce. If you’ve noticed, you never see a packet with the seeds mixed together from more than one species, such as lettuce and radish – it’s actually illegal to mix them!
