LYON, France - A little more than a decade ago, women's soccer in the Netherlands received so little respect, the girl who would go on to become the country's best player had to join a boys' team because that's all there was.
"I had a totally different way than the girls in the U.S.," Lieke Martens said. "I had talent. I wanted to do something with it.
"(But) it was 'maybe it's better to play hockey or tennis or another sport.' "
