GOING SOLO IN MOROCCO

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

It was early March and already it was 35°C. I rode through springtime wildflower pastures. Off the main roads and out of the truck spray, my Yamaha WR250R was fun to ride. My destination was a little-used crossing of the High Atlas; the R307 from Demnate to Ouarzazate. The narrow road crosses two 7000ft passes and in places is buried under hard-packed landslides, but it’s a great ride on any bike. And unlike the main, Tizi n-Tichka trunk road from Marrakech, here you’ll pass more mules than labouring artics.
