FUEL ECONOMY
t has always seemed to me that when journalists test ride new bikes the fuel consumption figures are misleading as the bikes are not being tested in real world situations. I think that more consideration should be given to the fuel capacity of the bike against its intended use – sports, touring, adventure, etc. Having travelled all over Europe, the USA & West Africa, my rule of thumb is that a touring bike should be capable of covering at least 250 miles on a full tank at an average speed of 60mph, which equates to over four hours of non-stop riding.
