Pumpkin

Pumpkins belong to the Cucurbitaceae family and there are many varieties, including Cucurbita pepo, C. moschata or C. maxima. Butternut and Jap (both C. moschata) are the two species most commonly consumed in Australia.

The word pumpkin is attributed to American settlers who got the word from the English term of the time for the vegetable, “pompion”.
