I have recently found myself apologising for certain foods I serve to guests. “It’s strong,” I’ll warn them as I place a chilli, ginger and coriander pesto on the table. “I know it’s not to everybody’s liking,” I’ll say as I pass the tomato, garlic and anchovy salad around.
