'Re-Imagining Paradise' — Making Plans To Rebuild A Town Destroyed By Wildfire

Residents of Paradise, Calif., are being given reassurances that their town — completely destroyed by last fall's Camp Fire — will be rebuilt. But will the new town be too expensive for many?
Cal Poly Architecture Students focused on the idea of (re)imagining and (re)building Paradise, Calif. with models, renderings, and updated concepts to present during a community forum in Chico, Calif.

Last fall's deadly Camp Fire has brought renewed questions about whether towns in high risk areas like Paradise, Calif., should even be rebuilt.

Barry Long tried to squash those immediately recently, as he kicked off a crowded town hall meeting at the Paradise Alliance Church.

"One of the first questions we get is, 'are they really going to rebuild Paradise?'," Long says. "And we say that's not a question, [the city] council made an immediate decision [that] we're going to rebuild Paradise."

That was met by a resounding applause from a large crowd of anxious Paradise residents. Long's firm, Urban Design Associates,
