Analysis: R. Kelly's musical legacy: Era-defining success brought down by scandal

CHICAGO - R. Kelly, who was indicted Friday on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, is among the most commercially successful and acclaimed recording artists Chicago has ever produced.

During his late '90s heyday, Kelly was regarded as the most accomplished singer-songwriter-producer-performer in R&B. But his legacy - like few other artists in pop history - may ultimately be defined in a far less flattering way by his private-life actions.
