It seemed like a dream motorcycle tour. It wouldn’t last long, and it might have been a bit late in the year to get perfect weather. But a run around northern France with four other riding mates, taking in some Second World War memorial sites was bound to stir the emotions. Staying overnight somewhere quaint, while refreshing and entertaining ourselves French style would only add to the adventure of it all. To then cap it all off with some laps around the iconic Spa Francorchamps circuit would undoubtedly add icing to what could only be seen as a very much full fat and deliciously fruity cake. Well that’s what we all expected anyway.

The Friday afternoon of the idyllic sounding weekend got off to a more than damp start. My trip to meet the others in Trowbridge was a very wet one. Even so, the heavy rain couldn’t dilute my enthusiasm. Having been allowed to choose my mount for the trip, I’d had no hesitation in selecting KTM’s 1290 Super Adventure S. I had absolutely no doubt in my mind that the Austrian adventure bike would fit the bill perfectly.
