Editorial: Another 'cross' case could undermine our separation of church and state

The Supreme Court long has struggled with the question of when religious symbols on public property violate the 1st Amendment's ban on an "establishment of religion." But in agreeing to consider the constitutionality of a giant memorial cross at a busy highway intersection in Maryland, the justices could be signaling that they are ready to broadly endorse such displays.
