The International Society of Scratchboard Artists

Scratchboard already is a fine art medium but in the past it hasn’t been recognised as such by everyone so we created the society to rectify this. We also created it to give scratchboard artists their own “place to belong”. In the following words and pictures we will meet the movers and shakers behind the society with their achievements and art.

Obviously there’s me (not that I consider myself extraordinary – but the others are). I’ve been involved right from the inception, making certain the society got off the ground and worked, to the point where it keeps working with momentum. I am recognised by the Society as a Master Scratchboard Artist (MSA), which is a huge privilege but also comes with responsibilities. As an MSA I need to voluntarily provide mentoring services (our webmaster rotates mentoring requests around the different MSAs so we all have to take on that responsibility). MSAs also have to be judges and jury, again on a rotation basis. This involves jurying applicants into the society and to the higher levels too. It also involves jurying art into our annual exhibitions and then judging the awards in the open section (obviously us MSAs don’t judge the
