What are they like to ride?

In many ways the odd bike out is the Yamaha. The XS1100 felt like a softly-sprung lump the first time I rode one, as it wallowed around when thrashed on a tyre launch in Ireland, way back in the early Eighties. Years later it still seems unwieldy but I’m in less of a hurry, so ready to respect its age and enjoy its grunty engine, smoothness and comfort, rather than be put off by its size and weight.
