Helene Elliott: Chargers, Lynn discover something special in running back Austin Ekeler

Largely unknown beyond tiny Western State University in Gunnison, Colo., Austin Ekeler went undrafted in 2017 but was determined to make an impression as a free agent at the Chargers' rookie minicamp. Despite his best efforts, however, the muscular 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back was just another face in the crowd to coach Anthony Lynn.

But, as with the previous occasions when Ekeler faced doubts or rejection - out of high school, Division I schools had no interest and he was told he'd probably have to become a defensive back to play at all - he wasn't willing to give up.
