Commentary: I was separated from my parents 50 years ago. The trauma has marked the rest of my life

Over 50 years ago, when I was a 14-month-old toddler, I was involuntarily separated from my parents. I was so young that I have no memories of those 11 days in a children's hospital. Deep down, however, I carry the ineradicable sadness of that experience to this day.
