CHICAGO - Seventeen people were shot over nearly 17 hours in Chicago, including a 15-year-old girl killed while visiting friends on the South Side Tuesday night, according to police.
Police said Jazmyne Jeter was on a porch with a group of teens when someone fired from a passing car around 8:30 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Carpenter Street, in the Englewood neighborhood. She was hit in the chest and pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said someone on the porch returned fire. He said the girl was not the intended target.
