A Los Angeles Judge ruled that coffee companies in California must carry a cancer warning label because of a chemical that is produced during the coffee bean roasting process.

Coffee companies in California must carry a cancer warning label, because of a chemical produced while beans roast, a California judge tentatively ruled Wednesday.

The decision was the result of a lawsuit filed in 2008 by a California-based nonprofit called The Council for Education and Research on Toxics (CERT).

The lawsuit targets Starbucks and dozens of other coffee purveyors under the state's , which requires companies with more than 10 employees to warn their customers about the prevalence
