BERKELEY, Calif. - On a recent evening at the University of California, Berkeley, liberal and conservative students argued for nearly an hour about health care, economic policy and climate change.
There wasn't a police officer, security guard or heckler in sight. No one waved protest signs. Observers applauded politely.
People who did not share the same views had managed to have a civil political debate.
