Teens: Pretty Sober, Except For The Marijuana And Vaping
A national survey finds teen substance abuse at the lowest levels since the early 1990s. But marijuana use hasn't declined, and the number of teenagers who are vaping is rising quickly.
The number of teens abusing drugs is lower than it's been since the 1990s, according to a national survey.
"In particular, we see a tremendous decline in the portion of young people using cigarettes," Dr. Lloyd Johnson, a study researcher at the University of Michigan, said at a press conference on Thursday. "The changes we're seeing are very large and very important."
But there are a couple of key exceptions. "[One] is marijuana. It hasn't says. "Another concern is we see very high and very fast uptake of electronic vaping devices."
