Dahlan continues to intervene in Syrian issue

The Palestinian MP Mohamed Dahlan, who was dismissed from Fatah and lives in exile, continues to intervene in the Syrian issue, the New Khaliji reported on Wednesday. The former Fatah official met with a Syrian opposition figure in Paris last month.

Randa Kassis used her Facebook page to post a photograph of herself sitting next to Dahlan during a meeting of the French Council of Political and Foreign Affairs (CPFA). Kassis is the Chair of the Astana Political Platform; the CPFA is chaired by her husband, businessman Fabien Baussart. She is known for her close links with Russia and did not give any details of the purpose of her meeting with Dahlan.

As the leader of a coalition of Syrian secularists and democrats, Kassis met recently with the son of US President Donald Trump.

According to the New Khaliji, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is seeking to use Dahlan — with whom he has good relations — in Syrian matters. Dahlan has some supporters in Syria and this might help him to lead on issues in line with Moscow’s position.

When the Syrian opposition figure Ahmed Al-Jarba announced the launch of a political party in Cairo earlier this year — Al-Ghad Al-Suri — there were several guests from the Syrian opposition present, as well as a representative of the Russian embassy and Mohamed Dahlan. The party represents the UAE-Egyptian opposition that accepts cooperation with the Syrian regime headed by Bashar Al-Assad.
