CHICAGO _ Former White Sox coach Joe Nossek was known around baseball as the best sign stealer in the business, a label he wore proudly.
No one tried to hide the fact, and Nossek's reputation for breaking the code was golden. He may have been the most respected coach I've ever covered, and he never felt the need to feed his ego by managing, a job he deserved.
Nossek just loved the idea that other teams always thought he was stealing signs, whether he was or not. It was a mind game to him, and one that was addictive.
