In Defeat For Theresa May, Conservatives Lose Majority In U.K. Parliament
The U.K. prime minister called the election to strengthen her stance in Brexit negotiations. But her party lost seats and now no party has an outright majority. Opponents want her to resign.
Opponents are calling on U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May to resign after her Conservative Party lost its majority in Parliament.
According to exit polling, no party will win an outright majority, leaving a hung Parliament.
Jeremy Corbyn, leader of Labour, the U.K.'s largest opposition party, was quick to suggest May resign.
"The prime minister called the election because she wanted a mandate," Corbyn. "Well the mandate she's got is lost Conservative seats, lost votes, lost support and lost confidence. I would've thought that's enough to go, actually. And make way for a government that will be truly representative of all of the people of this country."
