About this series

Life starts swirling around Gene after the death of Jesus.

Sarah and Maxine, two women from Gene's past, come back into his life and devote their lives to supporting his causes-long term care for Vietnam vets, supporting the indigenous women and keeping Hawaii Hawaiian.

Death, new life, and new alliances occur within Leilani's Hawaiian ohana (family). Amid these changes, expansion and a welcoming of lost native Hawaiian's expands the beauty of the Hawaiian community.

Gene's indigenous family in Shasta County also rock this love story. They have planned and plotted for decades to create a society that values the contributions of the indigenous women. When unplanned events happen in Hawaii, these people's dreams are threatened.

Who can make the greatest impact on the dreams Gene has? Gene always attracts persons who add value to his life and to the world around them. One by one, these persons step up and surprise us with their acts of selflessness to make the world a better place. Some recognize the plight of the homeless Vietnam war veterans, some recognize a need to empower women where they can and some want to use advances in science to bring about change in the world. With energy and resources behind them, they wind us through an intricate web of interconnected love and exciting progress.

Wu Chen immigrated to California from China as the secretary for Kong Mac's tong in the 1850's. A tong was an embassy in a strange land, a kind of fraternal society for Chinese who arrived in San Francisco. It was from this tong that a lone Chinese male gained access to work, food, shelter, and entertainment. The tong members mined gold, silver and built the railroad up and over the Sierras.   Throughout his 34 years of working for Kong Mac, Wu had accumulated 800 pounds of gold and had hidden it all throughout the Sierras. On the day the novel begins, May 5th, 1885, Wu has finally moved all of his gold stash to his hiding place in Castle Rock on Mount Diablo in northern California. That same day Wu's only son, Jimmy, decides to betray him for his gold. Instead of tremendous wealth, Jimmy receives a tremendous curse from his father. A curse that lasts for generations to come.   One hundred years later, Wu's body, a pistol, ten pounds of gold and a journal are found in his hidden cave by a young man named Ken. It sets him and his detective friend, Gene, on a journey to Moloka'i, Hawai'i to unravel the rest of the story. Ken and Gene locate the living Chen relatives and learn the deeper meanings of love and lost love.    Castle Rock is a historical fiction trilogy that will help you rediscover the beauty and sadness that exist in every generation, the strength of the spiritual practices that Hawaiians have long believed in and the power of family and forgiveness.  "The Curse of Wu" is Book One in this trilogy.

Gene is tired and lost. The death of his latest flame, Marilyn, has strained and drained him. Ken, Marilyn's son, has now settled in Hawaii with his new love, Leilani. Within days of Marilyn's funeral, several survivors of the Vietnam War appear into Gene's life. Jesus, a severely disabled and now alcoholic 1st Cavalry enlisted man is living on the streets of Richmond, CA. Pipes and B, former Marines now cops in Richmond, are working to make the streets a safer place and to take care of helpless Vets. And Maxine, a R&R weekend fling during the middle of the war and Jesus' nurse in Vietnam, has decided to look for a rekindling of lost soulmates. Upon Pipes urging, Gene agrees to spend some quiet time grieving and rejuvenating in Pipe's mountain cabin near Mt. Shasta. While hiking one morning on the mountainside, he encounters a beautiful, mysterious, white haired, young Native American woman, Cynthia Two Clouds. Love, lust, and duty propel Gene through an impassioned maze of experiences that proves he's a survivor and a hero to his most treasured friends.
