About this series
What would send someone back to the Wasteland after nuclear devastation?
The hazards of nuclear fallout make the trip a death sentence but when the hope of finding his lost family overcomes Rod Wasserman, he leaves the safety of the Mountain Place on a final, desperate journey back to the remnants of his old life. Certain he can't survive on his own--and terrified of her growing feelings for Liam-- Amaranth agrees to join him, knowing in all likelihood the trip will mean death for them both. What they discover forces them to face the ugly truth about the "new world" after the bombs and to build a completely new definition of "family."
Praise for the Ashes, Ashes books:
Awesome story....the different view points from each of the characters really make this an interesting read!
I love these children and the story is gripping. I never know who will survive so you never get comfortable with the twists and turns of the plot.
This series just keeps getting better. I would recommend this book to anyone who has and interest in "end of world fiction."
One of the most exciting books I've ever read!

After a nuclear bomb levels Washington, DC, a teen embarks on a treacherous 200-mile trek through a harrowing wasteland populated by desperate survivors to get his disabled sister to safety. First of the acclaimed 6 book in the Ashes, Ashes series, these adventures follow Liam Harper and his friends on a struggle for survival that tests their physical endurance, the bonds of friendship and their humanity. Praise for the Ashes, Ashes Series “A fresh take on the end of the world.” “Devastating.” “Highly recommend.” “A story about young people… but the accuracy and horror of this fight for survival aren’t for any under 16.” “End of everything from the point of view of two little girls and six teens—none of them are survivalists. Fast moving plot and interesting individual characters.”
- The Mistake - Book 2 of the Ashes, Ashes series

It’s a “shoot first, ask questions later” world after the apocalypse. After a perilous escape from the nuclear wreckage of their Washington, DC suburb in Ashes, Ashes, the surviving kids reach their destination, a mountain safe house, only to find their troubles have just begun. There are no adults and the kids are still all alone. Fifteen-year-old Nester Bartlett's biggest worries had been growing up black in America... but the nuclear apocalypse has changed all of the rules. Now, instead of getting good grades and struggling against the negative stereotypes against African American men, he's fighting just to stay alive. With no skills for his new life of tending animals, maintaining fires and defending their mountain cabin against intruders, he's unprepared for the threats that bombard him and his friends from the weather, from escaped prisoners from a nearby correctional facility and from their own grief over their losses. Then, as nuclear winter sweeps over their mountain home killing crops and animals, a medical emergency threatens one of their number. Nester must make a desperate choice that shatters their little community and irrevocably alters their chances for survival. Praise for THE MISTAKE A great spin on the usual TEOTWAWKI line. The only issue I had was that I just had to know what happened next & next... [the] characters & their interactions with each other became more & more real to me as the books progressed. Great books. Irresistible. An excellent read! These books really hook you... once you start, you can't stop! The characters are realistic and likable. The depth of human dynamics, dialogue, and interactions are believable and well written. Fantastic! A story of resilience and the will to survive told from the perspective of a bunch of kids--the oldest is 15. Excellent series!
