Please note this series has a short story that while it chronologically occurs before the events of the first book it is not necessary to have read it to understand the overall tale; it does however add a bit of backstory.
Also note this is the second part of a duet and neither book is meant to be read as a standalone.

Earth's Greatest Circus Proudly Presents, Fortunata: the luckiest of origins. An origin is a beginning but where does someone begin? Those of us in the troupe would say our beginning, our true origin can be summed up in one word: Circus. For us Circus is more than just the suspended bars and taut line you see above you, it's more than the name of any act, more than any single acrobat. Which by the way I overheard one of you earlier struggling with a-cro-bat but don't worry about it! Some of our youngest stumble on it too (pun intended) and you know what I say? Whatever you call them they still fly! And that's the thing to remember. Many of us where born here, many of us joined during the journey across the stars but regardless of how we came under its loving wings for all of us Circus is where we are, where we transform ourselves, where we express ourselves, where ourselves reach out to yourselves and together we will have the greatest fortune bestowed upon us. Ladies and gentlemen, beings of all ages we welcome you to our home, the one and only. Circus! - - - This is a short story that through the innocent eyes of one of its initiates introduces Circus — an art long extinct, or one might say selectively forgotten. While this tale preludes events in the main series — and so is enhanced by having read it — it may be read as a standalone.

It was just another day on tour for the merry performers, they practiced their acts, they joked around, their ship traveled on. The only thing that could be considered out of the ordinary for the troupe was their latest destination: the elitist naree'm space station. The pioneer visit was suppose to draw in new interest for a dying art form not draw interest that would become literal dying. Or an exploding ship as it were. The unexplained tragic incident claimed all but one. Little Cyan was found in an escape pod, he was too young to understand much less explain to those that found him what had happened to him or his parents or to the crew they were a part of. By the time Cyan had the language he could no longer recall much of that life-altering day but what he could never forget was Circus. The naree'm had never heard of a circusite until they took one in, Cyan had never heard of the aquatic naree'm until he became one but everyone will hear about it when Cyan and his nestmates Circus It Up! - This is a tale about a trio of naree'm who will do whatever it takes to achieve 'Circus' even if that cost is a 'human', whatever that is. Please note this series has a short story that while it chronologically occurs before the events of this book it is not necessary to have read it to understand the overall tale. Also note that Fly High is the first part of a duet and neither book is meant to be read as a standalone.
