About this series
Father, Son & Spirit - talking with the Triune God. God reveals himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each of the three are distinct, and yet they are One God. Scripture reveals that the Father adopts us, the Son atones for us, and the Holy Spirit animates us. As we settle in his presence, hearing his Word, responding to him in conversation, his intent is that we grow to know him ever better. These 31 days of prayer have been created as a path toward that end. Each day is an opportunity to respond to God because of what he reveals in his Word about himself.
This prayer book is unusual. If you have used a devotional, you know that, normally, we read it and we're done. Our hearts may or may not connect with what we've read. But these 31 days of Praying His Word are not designed for passive reading. If you have used other books in this "Praying His Word" series, you'll notice that this one is a little different. Each day there are three short passages of Scripture - one each on the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Then there are three reflective questions designed to interact with the three Scriptures. The result is a springboard to prayer.
The reflective questions make all the difference. That's where the Holy Spirit works. He takes these passages of the Word of God and begins to move in our hearts. Then, as we ask ourselves the reflective questions with an attitude of openness to the Holy Spirit's promptings, we discover a more honest awareness of our own hearts, its needs, its desires. We see more clearly into the character and goodness of God. And then, by the work of the Spirit with the Word, we find ourselves wrapped into a richer appreciation of God himself and his care for us.

Who doesn't need joy? God's intent is that we encounter joy as we journey with him. These prayers have been created as a path in his joy. Each prayer is a response to something God has revealed in his Word, a response of rejoicing. This prayer book is unusual. If you've used a devotional, you know that, normally, we read it and we're done. Our hearts may or may not connect with what we've read. But these 31 prayers are not designed for passive reading. There are four parts each day: (1) a selected passage of Scripture, (2) a short comment that helps to understand and appreciate what the passage is saying, (3) a reflective question that causes a person to stop and think, (4) a prayer which incorporates whatever the reflective question unearthed. It's that reflective question that makes all the difference. That's where the Holy Spirit works. He takes that passage of the Word of God and begins to move in our hearts. Then as we ask ourselves the reflective question with an attitude of openness to the Holy Spirit's promptings, we discover a more honest awareness of our own hearts, its needs, its desires. We see more clearly into the character and goodness of God. And then, by the work of the Spirit with the Word, we find ourselves wrapped into a richer appreciation of God himself and his care for us. We want to hear God. We need to hear God. Thankfully, God speaks to us. He speaks in many ways, but especially through his written Word. It's the one place that we can count on hearing from him. These prayers have been created that we might listen to him and talk to him with a particular emphasis on the gift that he does speak through his Word and the many wonderful things that he accomplishes through his Word. Each prayer is a response to something God has revealed in his Word, about his Word. This prayer book is unusual. If you've used a devotional, you know that, normally, we read it and we're done. Our hearts may or may not connect with what we've read. But these 31 prayers are not designed for passive reading. Can we live without hope? Not very well. And the hope from God is unsurpassed. It's not a maybe, it's sure and certain. Hope gives life to everything we do. It increases our trust in God, it increases our love for others. We can't have too much of it. Of course, this hope is so powerful because it's not a thing - it's a "Who"! It's Jesus Christ himself. God's desire is to give us this joyful, confident anticipation when he calls us into a relationship with his Son. These prayers have been created that we might have an ongoing conversation with the One who gives us hope and is our hope. Each prayer is an opportunity for us to respond to him in light of his gift. This prayer book is unusual. If you've used a devotional, you know that, normally, we read it and we're done. Our hearts may or may not connect with what we've read.
