About this series

On the side of a country road in Alabama sits a gas station. Last Chance. Last Chance for gas, beer, ice. And for some, last chance for the help they desperately need, thanks to The Benning Agency.

The first three books in the Last Chance Heroes series in one collection!

Running Scared
This isn't the first time Cal has rescued Livvie, but they both hope it's the last, as they fight their way through the jungle to escape a madman.

Truly, Madly, Dangerously
The only thing that would tempt Sadie to return home is a family emergency. Finding Truman again is just a bonus. Or maybe payback for her past sins…

One Major Distraction
Going undercover in an all-girls school isn't Flynn's idea of an exciting job, and falling for the lunch lady was not in his plans. Tess has no time for a sexy history teacher or any other man, until a serial killer puts her, and her daughter, in danger.

The princess and the mercenary…    A spur of the moment trip to South America had seemed like a good idea to Livvie Larkin, when the job offer had been made. A few weeks in a foreign land, caring for two sweet little girls who'd just lost their mother, might be just the thing to help her get over her latest disappointment in the romance department. She'd had no idea what she was getting into.    It wasn't the first time Quinn Calhoun had been assigned to rescue his employer's niece, but this time he was willingly returning to a place of nightmares. Nothing else could've made him go back to Camaria. Nothing but Livvie.     Livvie and Cal have nothing in common, and neither is looking for love. But when their adventure takes an unexpected turn, can she touch his mercenary heart?

Guns and Grits…    Sadie Harlow, Benning's sole female agent, is called home to assist her family in an emergency.  Slinging grits and cleaning motel rooms isn't exactly her idea of excitement, or fun. Still, it'll just be for a couple of days, and she can handle that. Barely.    The last thing she needs is to be confronted on day one by Deputy Truman McCain, the man she offered her virginity to years ago. He'd turned her down then; he's not getting a second chance, no matter how much he still turns her crank.    Her plans for a quick escape from town are thwarted when a local man turns up dead in the motel and she quickly becomes the likely suspect. Being suspected of murder is a real complication. But not nearly as complicating as Truman, who threatens to work his way back into her life… and her heart.

Major Overhaul…    Of all the undercover assignments Flynn Benning has been on, this has to be the worst. The retired marine finds himself posing as a history teacher at an all-girls' boarding school in order to solve a cold case. Did one of the teachers at this fine school get away with murder?    Tess Stafford is undercover as well, but for an entirely different reason. She's working in the cafeteria to be close to the daughter who was taken from her thirteen years earlier. Revealing herself would turn the girl's life upside down so she's content, for now, just to be close.    Flynn's instincts tell him Tess is hiding something. Tess is certain something isn't quite right, where Flynn is concerned. Neither of them is looking for the distraction of a relationship. Can they bury heartbreak from the past in order to have a future together?

Annie Lockhart doesn't want her friends to know about the psychic ability she inherited from her grandmother. She never wanted to see into other people's minds, has done everything in her power to deny what she is. Normally denial works, at least to some degree, but when she begins to dream of a serial killer she can't ignore the facts. A sick man is killing happy couples; someone has to stop him.   Lucky Santana meets with Annie intent on listening to her and dismissing her ridiculous claims. He believes only in what he can see with his own two eyes; he does not believe in psychics. Annie's a kook. She even dresses the part. But when she sees things within him that she should not, things no one should know, he sets out to prove that someone is playing a prank on him.   When it becomes clear that Annie is onto something, Lucky makes it his mission to stop the killer. That's what he does, what he's always done. Save the girl, take what you can get, leave. It's impossible that his time with Annie might turn into something more…

Secret admirer or stalker?   The last thing Sara Vance needs is a disruption of her well ordered life. Sara is the new mayor of her small town, a woman steeped in tradition and obligation. So someone stole her underwear off the clothesline. It was a childish prank, nothing more. Wasn't it? The appearance of an old boyfriend is much more disturbing than any prank.   Dante Mangino is a temporary member of the police force as a favor for his cousin, the chief. It's boring duty, and it's not long before he's regretting his decision to help. He had to cut his hair for this job; he wears a boring suit and tie. Things get much more interesting when he's called upon to investigate Sara's panty thief.   She's the one that got away, half a lifetime ago.   When it appears that the prank might be more serious than anyone suspected, Dante makes it his mission to protect Sara. Protection is his job, his calling. He failed once before; he won't fail again.

Author

Linda Winstead Winstead Jones

The first clue Linda had that she might like to write for a living came when she took a community education class in creative writing at the local high school. Taking classes was her hobby at the time, and creative writing came between yoga and French, or maybe between cake decorating and Chinese cooking. It was her first experience of meeting and working with other writers. She had always loved to read, and soon found that she loved writing. For years writing was just a hobby, one she sometimes attacked with a vengeance and then set aside for months at a time. When the time came to give completing a book a serious try, she was ready. Guardian Angel, a Western historical romance, was written at her kitchen table. Not long after she mailed it to a publisher, she discovered the local RWA chapter, Heart of Dixie, and joined. She knew right away that these were her people, and she hasn't wandered far since. Apparently unable to say no, she has served as conference chairman, president, luncheon chairman, and vice president. Easily bored, she soon deviated from historical romance into time travel, fairy-tale romance, and romantic suspense. When she's not writing, Linda can be found at hockey games (where she's a season ticket holder for the local team), a meeting of writers (a necessity and a joy that she will never give up), or doing the family thing with an ever-growing and wonderful family.
