Kimmer Reed is done running.   As a teen, she fled her abusive home—a survivor on her own terms—and swore never to return. But that was a lifetime ago. As a Hunter Agency operative, she's no longer a victim.   She's a protector.   Now she's gone undercover to protect the vulnerable genius who scrambles to fix a vital national security flaw. The mission means not only hiding from the bad guys and the ex-CIA field officer who's serving as an unofficial bodyguard, it means working in an area she never wanted to see again.   And it means that Kimmer, code named Chimera, must dig through her undercover identities and figure out who she really is. Because the only way she can save the present is to finally, truly, face her past.   But this time, the bad guys had better put on their running shoes. "Imagine the pace of the TV show Alias, the smart, emotional whammy of Buffy, and characters you care about every minute." --Julie Czerneda, Aurora-winning Author of the Night's Edge series

Karin Sommers isn't her dead sister. She just pretends to be.   But she's good with living a lie if it means leaving her fugitive grifter days behind. And the sisters had been fiercely protective of one another—Ellen would certainly understand Karin's pretense as the best way to hide from a dangerous past. Except it turns out that Ellen had her own deadly secrets, her own reasons for living so quietly on a small farmstead in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And now Karin's borrowed identity might just be the death of her. But ahh, not quite yet. Because Karin may have rejected her con girl upbringing, but she still has the touch. She knows just how to mislead the private operative who comes hunting her sister—even if neither has any idea that the past now hunts them both. And even if it means playing the most dangerous long game she's ever imagined… A Reviewer's Choice romantic suspense from an eclectic award-winning author.     "SURVIVAL INSTINCT by Doranna Durgin is nonstop action from start to finish. Author

Doranna Durgin

Doranna Durgin spent her childhood filling notebooks first with stories and art, then with novels. After obtaining a degree in wildlife illustration and environmental education, she spent a number of years deep in the Appalachian Mountains. When she emerged, it was as a writer who found herself irrevocably tied to the natural world and its creatures - and with a new touchstone to the rugged spirit that helped settle the area, which she instills in her characters. Dun Lady's Jess, Doranna's first published fantasy novel, received the 1995 Compton Crook/Stephen Tall award for the best first book in the fantasy, science fiction and horror genres; she now has fifteen novels of eclectic genres on the shelves and more on the way. Most recently, she's leaped gleefully into the world of action-romance. When she's not writing, Doranna builds author web sites, wanders around outside with a camera and works with horses and dogs - currently, she's teaching agility classes. There's a Lipizzan in her backyard, a mountain looming outside her office window, a pack of agility dogs romping in the house and a laptop sitting on her desk - and that's just the way she likes it.
