Praise for Nose for Trouble:

"In this wonderfully engaging mystery, veteran author Doranna Durgin introduces the appealing Dr. Dale Kinsall, an accomplished veterinarian and recent transplant from Ohio to Arizona. When Dale, accompanied by his sidekick, a Beagle named Sully, arrives at his new veterinary clinic in the desert, bizarre events occur from the outset.... Nose for Trouble provides true insight into the practice of veterinary medicine. A captivating read..."
--Lynne Maxwell, Mystery Scene

"...Keeps you interested from page one....I highly recommend Ms. Durgin's latest work to one and all."
--Wendy Keel, Romance Reader's Connection, 4 daggers

"Romance and Mystery Plus Fun!  A Nose for Trouble does it all. With Beagle! ...The mystery kept me turning pages madly, when I wasn't giggling. But what really caught my heartstrings were the interactions between the main character and his dog. Nothing sappy, everything real. Written by someone who knows dogs and people, and brings out the best in both."

Dale Kinsall, DVM, and his young Beagle Sully are brand new to the high desert of the American Southwest. Determined to start anew after a catastrophic clinic fire that damaged his lungs, Dale arrives to a practice populated by an eccentric staff, even odder clients — and a community all abuzz about a recent murder.   The wagging tongues grow even louder when Dale himself stumbles across a second victim on his very first day at the clinic—a man drowned in his own drought-wracked backyard—and that's just the beginning. Scandal and chaos seem to trot along at Dale's heels, and his new boss is less than pleased.   Mysterious notes, escalating "accidents," and rumors flying — before long, Dale, Sully, and the clinic are all at risk, with sly threats closing in around them. But how can Dale protect everyone and everything he cares about when he's the only one who sees what's happening?   There's only one thing for certain: just like Sully, Dale has a Nose for Trouble!

Dale Kinsall thinks he's pretty much adjusted to his new home—to the eccentric nature of his clinic staff and to the altitude and climate of the high desert. He's even gotten used to being known as the veterinarian who solved the eco-murders.   But that fragile sense of stability vanishes overnight. Contractors turn the clinic upside down, fellow vet Laura's nephew is deathly ill, and then Laura herself is hit by the same feared virus—even as Dale is the victim of a brutal and mysterious attack. Dale can't believe it's all coincidence... but everyone else pretty much thinks he's nuts.   Everyone but Sully the Beagle, that is. He's an expert mouser and experienced tracker. He can tell there's trouble brewing for Dale and Laura—because, after all...   Sully knows the scent of danger.

Author

Doranna Durgin

Doranna Durgin spent her childhood filling notebooks first with stories and art, then with novels. After obtaining a degree in wildlife illustration and environmental education, she spent a number of years deep in the Appalachian Mountains. When she emerged, it was as a writer who found herself irrevocably tied to the natural world and its creatures - and with a new touchstone to the rugged spirit that helped settle the area, which she instills in her characters. Dun Lady's Jess, Doranna's first published fantasy novel, received the 1995 Compton Crook/Stephen Tall award for the best first book in the fantasy, science fiction and horror genres; she now has fifteen novels of eclectic genres on the shelves and more on the way. Most recently, she's leaped gleefully into the world of action-romance. When she's not writing, Doranna builds author web sites, wanders around outside with a camera and works with horses and dogs - currently, she's teaching agility classes. There's a Lipizzan in her backyard, a mountain looming outside her office window, a pack of agility dogs romping in the house and a laptop sitting on her desk - and that's just the way she likes it.
