About this series

More than a memoir, the Victory trilogy shares with heart-searing honesty the adventures, mistakes, and rewards of challenging the untruths we're taught as children "for our own good" that forbid us to be who we really are, and can hold us hostage for life unless we find our own way to the truth.

An adventure tale, a mystery story, and an open window to an unapologetically extraordinary life. Victory Is My Name is bitter and sweet, tragic and joyful, painfully honest, but always stubbornly hopeful. Like a Huckleberry Finn born female, Vickie gets a rough start. As a latch-key kid on the wrong side of Dallas, she grows up with some baggage and some scars, but never quite loses that "maybe I can..." spirit. She hates the rules that say, You can't do that... You can't have that... You can't be that... and you shouldn't even want that, because you're a girl.
