About this series
Observers Log 2016-EA2:
Ships and planets occupied by a single species are the usual entertainment, especially when they make contact with a new species. The ship seldom went where our projections indicated. Then they crossed paths with 2018F.
Tagging their ship only helped keep track them for a period of time. Then it would disappear. This ships crew attracts trouble like a gravity well, except when they were causing it. They even brought others into their actions on another planet.

Observers Log 2018F: I was assigned to observe an individual. Usually only groups were assigned observers, but his youthful actions marked him. One company’s analysis of the Union of Aligned Planets indicated a civil war within a decade or two. Abernathy was a wily old fox. He built his business using marginally illegal means until he was the third biggest in the UAP. Number one was always watched intensely, and number two also got plenty of attention. Number three, only occasionally. Then he built a super scout ship that was easily upgradeable. Years before he’d made sure that the military liaison was favorable to his views, and didn’t talk about his secrets. Just like in a millennium old entertainment program, he put his liaison in a position where he was in control. Procuring a few of the best pilots and crews for his experimental ships was fairly easy. When he acquired Filmore and Torrex, he almost lost his control. They found a few of his secrets. Fire and Ice tread the line between honesty, and that of a buccaneer. They enjoyed the marginally legal advantages he offered, but most of all the adventure.

Observers Log 2016-EA: Ships and planets occupied by a single species are the usual entertainment, especially when they make contact with a new species. The ship seldom went where our projections indicated. Then they crossed paths with 2018F. Tagging their ship only helped track them for a period of time. Then it would disappear. The ship and crew would reappear on a different spacecraft with the same name. It seemed that they were drawn to, and usually involved in some conflict. Not even the upheavals in the Engineers Alliance could account for their actions.
- The Asteroid Belt Station's Story
Freedom lovers will sneak around the oppressive politics. The mining space station was one such endeavor. The 5 P’s helped. An unplanned course change results in finding a wrecked spacecraft, and new life goals within the stations population. Using technology that you don’t understand, can give results you can’t forecast. Young men are always looking and going where they shouldn’t. Two star empires result, one rife with corruption, the other secretive. Pirates attack a farming planet that is on a trade route of Durham Traders. A copy of an antique trading ship plays its role in freeing those captured by the pirates. The corrupt empire dooms millions when unbridled greed is unchecked. The Observers were an ancient civilization that looked upon the younger species in the galaxy as entertainment. Two millennium of experiments had only resulted in three successful translations into the past. However they could detect the shadows of future events to pinpoint areas of interest. Then they would trace that shadow back to catch its beginnings. Included in this book are two background traces.

Stephen Brandon
I've loved westerns and science fiction since I picked up my first book at the public library. I've been writing on my computer for years. I never planned on any of my stories being published, just to be read by myself, family, and friends. The base journal is on forty spreadsheets with links to about a thousand files of short one day paragraphs plus other stories. {My claim to fame, written by someone else. Thanks.} "As an earthbound retiree, Stephen writes mostly science fiction and short stories. He is a voracious reader and has written for a few years, publishing his stories on Smashwords."
