Primal Skies: An Urban Romp in the Vampire Midwest Series

Will Foley is having the worst day of his life. It was supposed to be an ordinary road trip.  See a few Indiana sights, do a couple of live interviews for his podcast, meet some interesting people, come home to his wife Helen and podcast partner Iain with stories to tell. Instead, he's found himself the victim of a psychotic vampire, embroiled in a 400-year-old curse, forced to trust a strange woman he just met, and thrust into a life-and-death struggle that may mean he'll never see his wife again. Worst. Road trip. Ever.

Constance Axel isn't like most little girls. Whether it's the ghosts she isn't supposed to see, or her mysterious "aunts and uncles" with their weird, fun tricks (Aunt Storm has the best frontier stories), or the pirates and the fairies that are practically in her own backyard, Constance lives a unique life in Northern Indiana. She never imagined that one day, the pirates and the fairies might turn out to be real...

Storm has seen and lost a lot in her four centuries of life...friends, lovers, a husband, even children.  Enough love and loss for a lifetime.  Several lifetimes, in fact.   She's always thought she could handle it.  Especially now that she's got her band of immortals to stand by her. But will the loss of a dear mortal friend finally be too much?

For most people, waking up in a strange hospital bed with no idea how you got there is frightening enough on its own.  But for podcaster Iain Axel, the strange is just beginning.  First there's the walking through walls thing; then there's the cold, mysterious Saul to contend with; and, of course, there are the fangs.  What ever happened to a normal road trip?

With the new arrangement between Storm and her motley crew of vampires, things have reached a relative peace.  But not everyone is happy with the arrangement.  When Laura meets a mysterious vampire in Chicago, she thinks she's found a better solution.  But is the newcomer everything he seems?  Why does Laura feel strangely conflicted?  Is it just fear of change?  Or is her intuitive ability trying to tell her something?

Emotions run high as Will starts to become confused about his relationship with his maker Storm.  Are his feelings his own, or are they an affect of his blood bond?  Meanwhile Storm goes to meet a mysterious old friend, Rune, as a very old and very bad mistake comes back from the grave, and Storm may be the only one who can fix it.  Will the group survive this new situation?  Or will it be sundered forever?

Home for the holidays can be stressful enough for ordinary humans. But for vampire couple Will and Helen Foley, going to her old Daniels family home in Kentucky brings a whole other set of problems.   First there's the fact that they can hear every little thing that goes on in the house. Every. Thing. Then there's the endless barrage of family members asking why they don't have kids yet.  Thankfully no one's asking (yet) why they haven't aged. Then there's the fact that animals seem to keep popping up where they aren't supposed to be...to say nothing of the fact that Mrs. Daniels seems oddly intent on no animals around at all, even in the backyard. And oh yes...one of them seems to be talking to Helen. Oh for a normal Thanksgiving.

It's Halloween time at the Foley house, and vampire couple Will and Helen Foley can't wait to hand out candy to the neighborhood kids.  But a sudden sense of cold, the mysterious strains of a movie song, and a possible shadow hiding across the street make Helen think all is not as it seems in the neighborhood.    Is it her imagination making her think someone is there, watching her?  Is her mind bored during quiet times and trying to invent something to investigate?   Or is there really a haunter in the dark this Halloween?

With his wife Helen fallen into a mysterious coma, and the other vampires unable to determine why, Will has never felt more alone in his life.  Becoming more and more desperate for answers, his searches come up with nothing but the start of a mysterious note.  Coupled with vivid and disturbing dreams, the unfinished note begins to paint a horrifying picture.    What happened to Helen exactly?  What is Will supposed to do to help?   And who exactly is Ind?

Iain Axel has long felt different from the others...and not only because of his unique vampire abilities. With the sudden appearance of the mysterious Alex, the sultry Greek vampire who claims to be Iain's brother, Iain starts to feel the stirrings of something he never recognized before...something animal.  Is Alex what he seems?  Or is there another motive?  And what is Iain to make of the fiery Sasha whom Alex has taken under his wing?  Are they really just mentor and pupil?   And what exactly is Iain supposed to do with the animal that is waking up inside him?  Can his life ever be normal again?

Joseph never quite understood humans.  Even before he was turned by the villain Ezra back in antebellum Kentucky, there were so many human things he didn't understand.   Now his story unfolds in full and heartbreaking detail, from his childhood to his betrayal by Ezra, up to the modern day, and his newfound Daniels family.  Now he's got new family to try to understand, both human family and vampire.  Football is particularly confounding to him, but he thinks he can get by.    There's so much to try to keep up with though!  Joseph is tempted to throw in the towel and go back to the woods to his animal friends, where he doesn't need to bother with things like clothes and small talk.   But when sinister rumors about animal disappearances surface in town, Joseph finds himself drawn into the fray.   Will he abandon the human race forever?  Will he find the call of the wild irresistible?  Or will he find a place amongst the humans after all?

Tensions rise among the group as Storm revives an old investigation into tales of an Indiana lake monster. Nothing about it makes sense, and it doesn't help that everyone's abilities have been off lately. The only two who don't seem affected are Storm and the mysterious beauty Julia, who everyone knows but no one seems able to remember anything about. The mystery only deepens as the group goes back to the lake and encounters angry townsfolk and mysterious messages that weren't there before...

An old human flame comes back to Storm with an odd request. Even odder is the fact that he's from 90 years ago...and still looking the same age. Is Walter Weil really what he claims to be? Or is there something more sinister afoot? And what is the strange tattoo on the back of his neck?

Geoffrey Alistair Adrien has been born again for the second time in his life.   In recovering from tragedy, he found comfort in his church and in gospel singing.  But is he really recovered?  Why doesn't it feel like he's been saved?  Is this really how this is supposed to work?   A chance encounter with a strange woman and girl who he's never seen in church before coincides with another equally strange encounter, and Geoff finds himself suddenly torn in the midst of two new worlds he's never known existed before.  Both worlds are alluring, neither world is particularly safe, and both are calling to him.  Which call will he answer?

Laura Axel gets the tragic news of her grandmother Leilani Ka'ana'ana's passing, and she and her family fly to Hawai'i to begin settling her affairs. The rest of the vampire gang join her soon thereafter at the chateau to help.   But everything may not be as it seems in Chateau Ka'ana'ana. Recently-painted portraits of a long-deposed queen begin to draw Laura, and local troublemakers may hold dark secrets. And then there's Leilani's mysterious old friend Hiro, who may be older than he looks.   And what exactly is Storm seeing in the glass?
