About this series
Do you want to find a secret paradise? Here you will learn more about how to pack so light, flexible, and practical that you always can say yes to adventures, can enjoy the scenery and historical sites, swim, sunbathe, and eat nice dinners instead of handling your stuff. You will also learn to become even better at keeping a positive attitude through challenging situations.
This second book in the Travel Light series describes our unplanned journey through Bosnia and Croatia in a steaming heat wave. We fell in love with Bosnia in spite of linguistic confusion. Friendly, cheap, historical and scenic. And we managed to survive a bit too adventurous drive in the mountains outside Konjic.
In a hot Croatia with irresistible water, we visited touristy cities, historic sites, cozy towns with impressive walls, mountainous islands with breathtaking views and peaceful calm islands. Some of our favorites were Brac, Ugljan, and Pula. During one of our exciting excursions, we jumped from cliffs straight into the sunset, but we also had jellyfish splashing our foreheads.
We had a fantastic finale of our journey in mythical Venice. A city to love as long you choose the right shoes and the right attitude. We walked 40000 steps through the cozy alleys, made countless boat tours through the beautiful canals, and enjoyed the warm evenings on the quaysides. Even if we did not want to leave the heat, the boat ride to the airport was an adventure in itself. It is easy to remember the tasty ice cream, the delicious food, and the great wine in Bosnia, Croatia, and Venice. With Venice as the winner.

Dare to travel light and flexible! You will find secret paradises you could otherwise never reach. Here you find practical tips on how to pack in such a flexible and useful way that you never need to turn down an adventure or a dinner at a nice restaurant. But at the same time light enough to carry on long walks if necessary. Me and my 15-year old daughter started in Bangkok and spent two intense days exploring China Town, river cruising, visiting temples and Khao San Road. We took the train to the challenging border crossing in Aranyaprathet and entered Cambodia. The impressive Angkor Wat was by itself worth the whole journey! Our active days contained zip-lining in the jungle and biking in the amazing Angkor Wat. We walked in the puffy white sand and watched sea life in the crystal-clear water at the beautiful island Koh Ta Kiev. And we had calm days on the fantastic island Koh Rong Samloem. All thanks to new friends and helpful locals. We had several intensive evenings in hectic cities. In Siem Reap, we did not dare to test Skuon, the grilled and salted big hairy spiders. In Phnom Penh we celebrated New Year near the lit temple by the river with thousands of locals but also ended up in neighborhoods, we had to hurry away from. We spent the last days of our trip in Thailand where we visited friends, learned to go three on a motorbike, and tried many delicious, local dishes. - Travel Light in Macedonia - Hiking, cozy villages & crystal clear lakes: Travel Light, #3
3
Macedonia is outstandingly beautiful! On this journey, me and my daughter Lynn went hiking in breathtaking sceneries, visited cozy villages, and swam in crystal clear lakes. As always, we traveled with our 8-kilo backpacks. In the book, you will find tips on how to pack light to still be active, flexible, safe, and well-dressed in fine dining, but also how to become better at resolving conflicts through tough challenges. We started in friendly Skopje with its statues and the beautiful mountain Vodno. In Prilep, to where we took a train through a magically beautiful landscape, we were the only tourists and raised great curiosity. Our first real mountain hiking took us to heights with amazing views in Pelister National Park. And not a bear in sight! Though I'll admit, we were a bit worried. After walking and swimming around Lake Prespa, we visited Ohrid, the tourist magnet with the mighty fortress, the beautiful amphitheater, and a very active nightlife. It was much quieter in National Park Galicica where we did the amazing hike that so many talk about - Magaro! We also enjoyed bathing in the crystal clear waters, hiking to waterfalls in the company of six dogs, and hitchhiked, involuntarily, to Mavrovo. To get energy for the steep hike to the 1980 meter top, we enjoyed the spa, pool, massage, and breakfast buffet. Once again we were alone on the mountain and well worth a superb grilled fish for dinner. Of course, we went kayaking in Matka Canyon among thousands of butterflies before we made a detour to Kosovo. The best experiences are found outside your comfort zone when you venture out into the spaces. And for each time you go outside your comfort zone, you become somewhat braver!
