About this series
It’s the height of summer and Harry’s feeling the heat. So he scurries off to the frog pond where he hops with Melissa the frog into the garden gnome’s little sailing boat. Hauling aboard a lily leaf for a sail, they set off on a voyage across the pond – but the wind catches their sail and soon they’re speeding through the bullrushes, over which they’re not tall enough to see… Then a grumpy dragonfly appears, warning of trouble ahead and the two friends hold on tight to the mast as their little boat carries them towards a roaring waterfall!
Titles in the series (5)
- The Iced Cherry Bun
1
These are the heartwarming and humorous adventures of little Harry Hailstorm – whose mum Henrietta Woodmouse named him after the stormy, snowy weather the day he and his brothers and sisters were born. As Harry leaves the nest and roams the garden of Apple Tree Cottage he gets into all sort of scrapes along with his friends Melissa Lippy the frog, Malcolm the Mouse, Norman the Newt and Denzil the Fly. But because Harry’s so handsome no matter what kind of trouble he gets into, he’ll always come out smiling. In this first story of the series we meet our hero Harry Hailstorm the very day he’s born in the middle of a terrible snowy storm. Then, once he’s grown up enough to roam, Harry runs off with Melissa Lippy the frog to visit Norman the Newt and help him dig a muddy tunnel. Mrs Woodmouse is dismayed when Harry comes back caked in mud – so our adventurer heads off in search of a cosy home of his own. Nearby, he finds the house of Mrs York where, on the window ledge sits a scrumptious cherry bun that’s far too tasty for naughty Harry to resist!
- The Frog Ballet
2
Summer has come to the garden, the flowers are blooming with pride and Harry, Melissa and Norman have work to do organising the Apple Cottage garden party. Melissa lines up all the little froglets in their pretty pink tutus for the Frog Ballet. But then disaster strikes. After falling from their lily pads into the pond, three of Melissa’s dancers catch colds and are too poorly to dance on the big day! Whatever can she do? Maybe she can persuade Harry and Norman to come rushing to the rescue…
- The Pudding Pinchers
3
It’s a frosty Christmas morning and Harry can’t wait to pick up his chums Norman the Newt and Malcolm the Mole and take them round for a slap up lunch at his mum’s. Excited they arrive at Mrs Woodmouse’s house licking their lips at the sight of the delicious Christmas pudding that’s cooling on the window ledge. But, oh no! The pudding’s been pinched by a rat called Pogue and his gang of rogues. So off they set in hot pursuit, following the rats’ trail of crumbs down the rats’ dark tunnels where Malcolm’s talent for seeing in the dark saves their Christmas Day!
- The Fly Who Couldn’t Fly
4
Malcolm the Mole comes calling to ask Harry to come and watch young Denzil the Fly take his first flight and off they hurry to see the sight. But when they arrive Mrs Fly’s in tears – young Denzil can’t overcome his fears and simply cannot fly. As always, Harry comes to the rescue. He sits Denzil on his shoulder and takes him off to visit old Tobes the dog, who lives with the young wizard Josh Tobes.
