About this series
The Last Arabesque is the story of Kim Bastille. Starting in 1965, her journey carries her through the turbulent years of the late 60’s in New York City. Think of Black Swan meets That Girl, meets Forrest Gump. It tells the story of a young ballet dancer from Alabama moving to New York City to be part of the New York Ballet. All is going well with her dance career until a freak accident landing a jump like she had a thousand times before goes horribly wrong.
The story begins with the stunning tale of Kim shattering her leg making a routine leap in rehearsal. It deals with her coming to terms with this awful reality before her as she struggles to deal with a badly broken leg. In the 1960’s Kim’s journey to recovery takes her too many places that she never would have pictured growing up in Alabama. She experiences music, movies and the cultural revolution all while trying to cope with recovering from a badly broken leg and a series of ongoing injuries as she tries to return to a high level of dancing.
This story has something for everyone, 1960’s culture, grievous injury and an inspirational recovery from it, rock music and drug experimentation.
