Dr. Palfrey Series

The Nazis have stored radium somewhere in Europe. Dr. Palfrey must find it, but there is a big business syndicate also involved who aim to bring Europe to an economic standstill and ultimate starvation. They conceal themselves with curious black masks, but other clues as to their identities emerge and their plans are well advanced. Will Palfrey be in time?

As World War II enters what may be the ‘beginning of the end’, Dr. Palfrey and his Z5 colleagues are tasked with locating many of the doctors, scientists and other prominent people who have been imprisoned by the Nazis all over Europe. They will be needed in the re-building of the war-torn countries and Palfrey must lead them to safety. This action packed adventure follows the team’s progress as they proceed from the Baltic to the very heart of the enemy’s stronghold: Berlin.

Nazi Agents are at work in the neutral countries of Europe - attempting to subvert so as to provide further easy victims for the Third Reich. Dr. Palfrey and the ‘Rescue Squad’ are faced with the challenge and danger of meeting this treachery and overcoming the full might of the German state in its quest for power. There is much standing against them, and they are likely to be uncovered and caught at any moment, but they must succeed as the fate of the allies may depend upon it.

Towards the end of World War II elements of the German High Command flee to Japan. Could this mean that the war in Europe will end only for the Allies to find resistance in the East to be even fiercer than expected? Dr. Palfrey leaves for the East on a mission of great daring. Disguised as a German officer he seeks ‘The Colony of the Fourth Reich’ believed to be situated in China. His disguise uncovered, he must find a way out with vital information concerning a possible kidnapping that will affect the whole outcome of the war. This story is a truly great espionage thriller.

Z5 is given the task of finding and capturing a Nazi fugitive. It’s chief agent, Dr. Palfrey, manages to learn more than anyone expected when he discovers that far from being alone, the man is only one of a growing and powerful band who, resenting their country’s defeat, are now bent on revenge upon those that brought it about. He must defeat them and their objective.

The Prince of Barbares, or the scourge of India? Dr. Palfrey and Z5 are up against an Indian mystic who is said to possess the ability to transmit images straight into the minds of his victims. They can take the form of depicting either a glorious picture of heaven, or a horrible one of hell, depending upon the Swami’s desire. Palfrey believes his real goal is to rekindle trouble between India and Pakistan and set them further against each other.

A megalomaniac stumbles across a curious chemical in certain deposits of impure uranium which results in instant death as it is passed from one person to the other. Can Dr. Stanilaus Palfrey defeat Anak’s plan and can Banister (one ‘n’) and Rita be reconciled as she emerges from her murderous sleep? And just how should the United Nations react in the face of this blatant attempt to dominate?

Extract from 'News Chronicle', October 19 ....: 'RADIOACTIVE CITY' OF LIGHT DARWIN, Wednesday. A Darwin explorer and photographer, Mr. Keith Young, believes he has found radioactivity in a mysterious 'forbidden city' in Arnhem Land, inside the aboriginal reserve. Mr. Young went to photograph the 'city' - which is fashioned by Nature from great limestone cliffs. The rock formation is shaped like battlements, towers, walls and streets. Mr. Young said: 'At night the "city" glowed with eerie light, which I consider to be radioactive in origin. 'He says he will not disclose the location of what he considers may be radioactive ores until he has discussed the matter with Canberra officials.-A. P.

Standing alone in the bleak Yorkshire Moors is Sir Rufus Marne’s ‘House of the Bears’. Dr. Palfrey is asked to journey there to examine an invalid - who he finds has disappeared. Moreover, Marne’s daughter lies terribly injured after a fall from the minstrel’s gallery, which Dr. Palfrey discovers was no accident. He sets out to look into both matters, but the discoveries he makes are truly fantastic. A deserted mine, powerful explosive and a submarine all feature in this powerful mystery. The results are even capable of surprising him ....

Mallen passes through Customs after a transatlantic crossing, but then a mysterious box that he has smuggled ashore becomes the subject of violent attempts to seize it. Behind these is to be found Abba, an arch-evil buccaneer who will stop at nothing. He is extremely rich and he and his followers will do everything possible to promote international discord and trouble, not least through the practice of black magic. Dr. Palfrey steps into the fray and must somehow deal with the situation before it gets totally out of hand, but that is not as easy as might be imagined.

Dr. Palfrey becomes involved in a threatened world domination by an organisation that uses the forces of nature to obtain its will. The first signs are a woman found on the bathroom floor choking and convulsing. The Doctor attending her and his partner then die. A cloud of mosquito-like insects swarm and sting, paralysing their victims. How quickly is this spreading and can Dr. Palfrey act in time?

The worst floods the world has ever known besiege all land masses. Some, such as Great Britain, are on the point of extinction. Dr. Palfrey has to find a solution, but before he does he needs to find the cause .... If he can, will a solution present itself, and can Palfrey triumph on behalf of mankind?

Professor Corvell has stunned the scientific and political worlds with proposals relevant to man’s exploration of space. Dr. Palfrey and Z5 must protect him. But Corvall is also an expert on the control of water. He is then swept off of a ship by a huge spout of water that follows the appearance of a small submarine. It is well known that underground nuclear explosions can cause tidal waves if set off in the right place, but what is the cause of this latest string of events? Dr. Palfrey and Z5 have to investigate. Is someone controlling the oceans at least to a limited extent? And how?

It seemed to be only a light vapour, but it was evil incarnate, strong enough to knock a tough man down. Dr. Palfrey is up against an enemy greater than any he has faced before, who moves in a white, insidious mist that brings death to all but one. The swirling fog dissipates just as suddenly as it appears and the people engulfed within it simply disappear. They are the sons and daughters of politicians, religious clergy, and other notables. The world is threatened with disaster, but Palfrey is completely puzzled by the terror being ranged …

Fires have broken out. At first they appear to be natural disasters, but they are spreading globally and into cities. Now, an ultimatum from Faustus has been issued. Governments everywhere are prepared to meet the problem by betraying Z5 and everything it stands for. Dr. Palfrey is completely discredited, but is not prepared to take the situation lying down and is determined to get to Faustus and unlock the secret behind the fires.

In an English Village and an American City life goes on as normal. It is summer and the sun shines down on people going about their business and enjoying themselves. Then a choking, yellowish smog begins to creep along the ground. A car crashes, with the driver incapacitated by the eye-stinging, killing miasma. Dr. Palfrey and Z5 deploy and hunt the mysterious Professor Storr across the world in order to head off the threat. One mystery follows another and a fantastic, yet disturbing light is shined on a problem that is all too real …

Dr. Palfrey is faced with one of the most difficult problems and a more powerful adversary than he has previously met. A mysterious disease strikes down some of the world’s most powerful figures; then their daughters also become victims. Palfrey and Z5 undertake a perilous journey to oust the cause and the truth and to prevent domination of the planet by an irresponsible power and fearful new weapons.

A plague of rabbits has hit the Far East, eating up everything in sight and actually threatening populations with starvation. They continue to spread throughout the globe and fear, disease and death lie in their wake. Despite all of man's technological advances, it seems nothing can be done to stop them. Step forward Dr. Palfrey, a man of genius and determination, but even he is a long way from a solution and it is not clear that even if one can be found it can be implemented in time. Meanwhile, the rabbits appear to be enjoying the destruction and bloody mess they leave behind.

At first sight there is no connection between the deaths of three agents in West Africa and the fact that one of Dr. Palfrey’s friends has suddenly lost a great deal of weight. However, behind both is an organisation using a drug that puts world domination within the reach of a few ruthless individuals. Blackmail ensues and Palfrey must deal with what could be the worst situation he has ever faced; an overwhelming and brutal conspiracy that threatens the lives of millions of people.

The human race is experiencing a slow death as the population ages, but no babies are being born. Emissaries from outer space are the cause, but this is unknown, and they are attempting to prevent Dr. Palfrey discovering the truth. Once again, he is faced with the need to save the world, this time from a megalomaniac takeover by 'The Master'.

Silence reigns; there is no noise that cannot be excluded. The daily roar from factories, aircraft, and explosions can all be insulated against. Humans can also be protected from the ravages of radioactive contamination. But there is a price; the loss of man's freedom. This is the dilemma that Dr. Palfrey must solve. Can he do it? The reader is the judge!
