Heavysnow will develop over the Sierra Nevada and Shasta Siskiyous tonight andcontinue through Sunday afternoon as the upper trough moves ashore.Snowfall totals between 6-12 inches are likely to accumulate over the next24 hours for the California mountain ranges, with locally higher amountspossible at the highest elevations. Light rain/snow showers will come toan end over interior New England tonight. Snow and rain impacts will cometo an end over California on Sunday as the upper trough shifts into theFour Corners region.Energy circulating around the southern periphery of an upper troughstationed over northern Quebec will influence potentially impactful severeweather across parts of the Northeast on Sunday. A fast moving surface lowpressure system will swing through the region during the day and promotescattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms from the Ohio Valley intothe Northeast. The Storm Prediction Center issued an Enhanced Risk ofSevere Thunderstorms over parts of Pennsylvania for Sunday with theprimary threat being damaging winds with a tornado or two and large hailalso possible. Things should clear up in the Northeast by Monday.Amplified troughing in the West will support below average temperaturesacross California, Nevada and into the Four Corners region through Monday.Downstream of this, southerly flow beneath an upper ridge and will allowfor anomalous warmth to expand across the central U.S. and eastern partsof the country. High temperature anomalies in those places are expected tobe between 15-25 degrees above average over the next couple of days. Aserious severe weather event is likely to unfold over parts of theCentral/Southern Plains on Monday night.
