On that fateful night in Portland's Old Port district, Amy St. Laurent vanished after a night out. She had ventured for an evening on the town with an acquaintance, enjoying moments at a pool hall, savoring pizza, and concluding her night at a dance club. Uncharacteristically, she left the dance club in the company of two men she had just met. They proceeded to an apartment to join a birthday party. Growing alarm gripped Amy's family and friends when they received no word from her the following day. Their concern deepened when she failed to show up for work. A two-month, intensive search was led by the Portland Police Department, with collaboration from the Maine State Police and the Maine Warden Service. Ultimately, Amy's lifeless body was found hidden in the woods. She had endured a brutal assault, showed signs of sexual violence, and had been fatally shot.
