Description

In our latest, we talk with historian Professor Frank Costigliola, Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Connecticut, about the life of diplomat, architect of the U.S.'s Cold War containment strategy and, later, critic of U.S. policy George Kennan.

We talked about Kennan's early life, his time in the State Dept where he penned "The Long Telegram" and a Foreign Affairs article that outlined "containment" as a strategy against the Soviet Union. We also talked about his later life as a critic of militarized Cold War policies, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War and the expansion of NATO.
