We continue our 2024 schedule deep dive series with Tennessee, which started spring practice on Monday. Brent Hubbs of On3’s Volquest joins to break down a Volunteers’ schedule that — as new SEC schedules go — is not the scariest.

How will the ascension of Nico Iamaleava to the starting quarterback role change Tennessee’s offense? Can the Vols be more explosive than they were last year, when a Joe Milton-led group took a step back from the previous year’s Hendon Hooker-led group? Plus, how much will having one of the nation’s deepest defensive lines help a group that struggled to get off the field on third-and-long plays last season?

FanDuel has set Tennessee’s win total at 8.5. The over certainly seems reachable, but the bigger question is whether the Vols can go over by more than one win. If they can, they might be a College Football Playoff team.

Next, Sean Callahan of On3’s Husker Online joins to break down a wild week in Nebraska. Last week, athletic director Trev Alberts — a former Nebraska football star — shocked the school by leaving for the same job at Texas A&M. On Monday, football coach Matt Rhule tried to rally Nebraska supporters who felt gut-punched by the move. Rhule showed he has mastered the political aspects of the Nebraska football job. He reassured the fan base while also encouraging greater donation and investment. He also staked his claim to having an even bigger voice in athletic department and school leadership.

Now, he needs to get his team ready to win some games. Because if he can add wins to his political savvy, Rhule could have a very productive tenure at Nebraska.
