In this first episode of our faith deconstruction series, we discuss our journey through the dismantling of our once unwavering faith within the Mormon church. Brick by sacred brick, our convictions crumbled as we caught glimpses of the tough realities of the Church's truth claims. From Jamie's realization about the Book of Abraham to the undeniable connection between temple rituals and Freemasonry, each discovery chipped away at our foundation. The emergence of DNA evidence challenging the Book of Mormon, coupled with the church's involvement in Proposition 8, left us questioning the integrity of our religious institution. The "performative niceness" within the church community during campaigns against the LGBTQ community further etched away at our foundation. And then again with the church's 2015 policy denying baptism to children of LGBTQ+ parents and the abrupt condemnation of the term 'Mormon' as 'a victory for satan.' It was all so much. Each of these events primed us for what would soon come, Elisha's discovery of the CES Letter, where all of the issues are indexed in one place. Jamie's subsequent deep dive would eventually land us in the same place: the church was no longer "true." Join us as we recall how it all came down.
