In summary, follow this process:
Start by making a list of the top 10 companies you would be EXCITED to work with. Don’t worry about available positions. Just think about the 10 companies you feel you would be able to add great value and would be excited to work with IF there was something available. This will allow you to build a profile for your ideal company.
Expand that list. Do research to find all companies that you don’t know about. This can be done with extensive LinkedIn and Google searches using the proper keywords and industry phrases. However, the easiest way is to use their company code with the IRS. You will find that if you make a list of 10 companies, most of them will share the same industry code with the IRS. That’s why we use software to build out that list and find every company in the same or similar category. It’s an invaluable tool.
Build a working list of 20 companies (you can’t work more than 20 effectively at a time). As you exhaust efforts on a company, replace it with the next company from your master list.
Connect with key decision makers at each company. Once again, you can spend time researching each company to find key decision makers. It is certainly worth the effort, but it is time consuming. That’s why with our software, we not only give our clients company names, but also the names and contact information for key decision makers inside of each company.
