Earlier this week a listener named Andrew sent a request for a show centered on a hypothetical situation where Joe Douglas was hired as Jets general manager in January 2019. At that point the Jets had the second most salary cap room in the NFL and the third overall pick in the NFL Draft. They also had a quarterback with three years remaining on his rookie contract.Of course Douglas wasn't hired then. He was only hired after Mike Maccagnan ran the entire offseason and essentially set the core of the Jets roster for the next two seasons. What would have happened in a Douglas 2019 offseason?While I can't speak to specific players Douglas would have signed, there are many aspects that would likely be different from Adam Gase to the way positions are valued to the approach to free agency to broader aspects of the team's management.
