Description
Ron Bergamini, CEO of Action Environmental, steps on to the New York Launch Pod to discuss one of the most sophisticated recycling facilities in the world which is located in the Bronx, New York.
Action Environmental is the largest private waste and recycling services provider in New York City and invested heavily to build New York City's largest recycling facility. According to Ron, the state of the art facility processes 400-500 tons of paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, and aluminum each day. The result is that the waste is not placed into landfills and Action Environmental is able to resell the recycled materials in the global marketplace sending much of the material as far away as China.
In this episode we go inside (literally) the $15 Million facility located at 132nd Street to see how the optical technology responsible for sorting the tons of recyclable materials each day works. We also delve into the world of New York City's garbage and the 20,000 tons of waste that are produced by New Yorkers each day.
Listen to the episode to hear the business of waste management and recycling and learn why there are two separate garbage collection systems in New York City: the Department of Sanitation for residential purposes and companies like Action Environmental for commercial purposes. Hear why Action Environmental decided to invest so much in recycling and what the facility means to the company, New Yorkers, and the global economy.
