Description

Episode 9: Feldenkrais – Neuroplasticity/Better Movement – Dorothy Henning   In this episode of the Stronger After Stroke podcast, Dorothy Henning, Guild Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner, addresses how she guides stroke survivors and those with other neurological conditions to tap into abilities they may have otherwise given up on.   Dorothy completed her training in Switzerland and opened her practice in the Feldenkrais Method® of Somatic Education in 2004. She returned to her home town, Louisville, Kentucky in 2013, and founded Integrative Movement LLC.  Dorothy returns to Europe regularly to present workshops and to see clients there. The collaboration with Norton Neuroscience Institute affords her the opportunity to bring Feldenkrais to those with movement disorders such as MS, Parkinson’s disease, post-stroke, neuropathy and others.    Neuroplasticity is the potential for the brain to change and heal at all ages. The Feldenkrais Method® is a form of somatic education that uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve movement and enhance human functioning. Through this Method, you can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. By increasing sensitivity the Feldenkrais® Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently and comfortably.   Rosa Hart, BSN, RN, SCRN is the stroke nurse navigator for Norton Healthcare and hosts the discussion.   Connect with the NNI Resource Center for support after stroke including free virtual Feldenkrais classes: https://nortonhealthcare.com/services-and-conditions/neurosciences/services/stroke-faqs/patient-resources/   Learn more about Feldenkrais: www.integrativemovement.us   Norton Healthcare, a not for profit healthcare system, is a leader in serving adult and pediatric patients throughout Greater Louisville, Southern Indiana, the commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond.
