Description

My guest this week is John Heers. John is head of the First Things Foundation. First Things Foundation was conceived as a way to remind wealthy westerners of what gives meaning to life and as a mechanism for serving the poorest among us. As a couple of men working in the aid field, we saw how do-gooders sometimes do profound damage to struggling communities. That damage isn't always physical; things get built when the cash shows up. The damage is spiritual, resulting in local people and local economies becoming dependent on outsiders. Or worse, these communities are violently transformed into what outsiders deem to be "good". We get into the spirit of what John calls "old world thinking" and the Orthodox way to offer philanthropy and aid. At the end, join me in the quiz that I take! Am I more of a new world enlightenment thinker, or do I trend towards the OLD WORLD?
