The term "Nephilim" appears in the Bible and is associated with a group of beings often described as giants or fallen angels. The exact meaning and nature of the Nephilim are the subject of much debate and interpretation, as the biblical references to them are relatively brief and somewhat mysterious.

The term first appears in the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament, specifically in Genesis 6:1-4, which states: "When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. Then the Lord said, 'My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, for they are mortal; their days will be a hundred and twenty years.' The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown."

The term "sons of God" and the concept of beings intermarrying with human women have led to various interpretations. Some believe that the Nephilim were the offspring of angels or divine beings and humans, resulting in a race of giants. Others interpret the "sons of God" as righteous descendants of Seth, intermarrying with the unrighteous descendants of Cain, leading to a corrupt and wicked generation.

The Book of Numbers (Numbers 13:33) also mentions the Nephilim in the context of the Israelite spies scouting the land of Canaan: "We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them."

The Nephilim are not extensively discussed in the Bible, and different religious traditions and scholars may interpret the passages in various ways. Some view the Nephilim as literal giants or hybrid beings, while others interpret them symbolically or allegorically.
